Role Model Week Save the date for Role Model Week 2022: 10th - 14th October! Role models have been shown to be related to the achievements of young people in many career-related outcomes. With studies showing that 1 in 4 children do not have role models, the Founders4Schools Role Model Week is a great opportunity for both schools and businesses to recognise the importance they play in building careers aspirations and to celebrate the impact they have on young people. On 11-15th October 2021 we celebrated our first ever Role Model Week campaign, kindly sponsored by the Institute of Physics. We were delighted to see so many schools getting involved with the campaign and inspiring their students through booking role model encounters and getting their children to dress up as their role models! We also had fantastic engagement from organisations who used the week as an opportunity to promote volunteering as a real life role model to their employees by registering on the F4S platform and connecting with their local schools. Children from Park Junior School in Wellingborough dressed as their role models! “The speakers were brilliant and the idea of a role model week has really taken hold in that the children enjoyed themselves so much, they have asked that we do this every year.” - Dr N Fernandes-Viana, Headteacher at St Joseph’s RC Primary School We also held a special F4S Digital webinar on Ada Lovelace Day with our sponsors the Institute of Physics for nearly 1,000 young people to show them how they can pursue a career in physics. If you missed it, not to worry, it's available on demand at any time below. Find out how you can get involved next year below! For schools - Primary School students are invited to come to school dressed as their role model and make a £1 contribution to our Futures4Students Fund, in support of our work to ensure young people from all backgrounds reach their potential. - Secondary and Primary School educators can use this week to discuss why role models are important, what makes a good role model, and invite a role model from our platform to speak to students about what their job is and their career journey to date. During the week is Ada Lovelace Day, an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and aims to encourage more girls into STEM careers. Research has revealed that the number of girls interested in STEM across Europe almost doubles when they have a role model to inspire them, and you can use our platform to find female professionals to achieve this. If you are a school based in Scotland and are not in school on these dates, feel free to pick any week in October that suits you to celebrate Role Model Week! For businesses and professionals Whatever your industry, young people need to hear from you and your colleagues as real life role models to inspire and educate them on the career pathways available.
